August 26, 2016:  A team of oncologists at Paras Hospitals, Gurgaon, has successfully removed a 21-kg cancerous tumor from a 61-year-old man’s abdomen. The person had been operated upon twice in the last 6 years, but the tumor had unfortunately grown back. He had approached various hospitals for the operation, but had been denied treatment due to the complexity of the case. This phenomenal success story of tumor treatment proves the mettle of the newly set up Oncology Department of the hospital.

“Ashish Khanna (name changed to protect privacy) could not walk or lie down due to the tumor. Also, he had profuse bleeding from the rectum. We advised immediate surgery. It was a difficult decision, but I am glad to say that due to our super-specialization in organ-based treatment, we were well-equipped to help the patient and perform the surgery. The tumor was removed, along with a part of the intestine. After sending it for a biopsy we now know that it was malignant in nature. The patient is back on his feet though, and is leading a good quality of life,” says Dr Vinay Samuel Gaikwad, Senior Consultant, Surgical Oncology—Gastrointestinal and Hepatopancreatobiliary Oncology, Paras Hospitals, Gurgaon.
