28 NGOs across India make it to the finale of 6th Spirit of Humanity Awards

Mumbai, September 04, 2015: Spirit of Humanity Awards, an initiative by AmeriCares has reached its finale after the three rigorous levels of short listing. The award in its 6th year received 400 registrations from NGOs across India of which nomination of three are from Maharashtra alone that have made it to the top 28. Winners of the 6th edition of Spirit of Humanity Awards will be announced on September 9, 2015 at JW Marriott Sahar, Mumbai.

The non-governmental organizations from Maharashtra to make it to top 28 are; Mahan Trust from Wardha, Maharashtra Arogya Mandal from Pune, ADAPT and Swayam Shikshan Prayog from Mumbai. Out of the 28, the highest numbers of NGOs shortlisted are from Tamil Nadu and West Bengal with 4 NGOs from each state that have entered the finals. Similarly, three NGOs from Delhi, two from Madhya Pradesh and one each from Hyderabad, Lucknow, Manipur, Ahmedabad and Uttarakhand have made it to finals.

Until last year, the awards were predominantly focused on NGOs in healthcare; this year, it has extended to other categories namely – Disability, Livelihood, Education and Water & Sanitation. Only one best from the four zones (N-E-W-S), for each category have made it to the finals, through a process monitored by KPMG in India.

In its sixth year, the Spirit of Humanity transitions into a national level platform for collaboration, capacity building and recognition within the social sector in India. The finale of The Spirit of Humanity Awards will bring together not-for-profit organizations, academia, government authorities, thought leaders and corporations for sustained engagement and cross learning. AmeriCares is an emergency response and global health organization committed to saving lives and building healthier futures for people in crisis. Their core programs include Disaster Response & Recovery, Mobile Medical Clinics, Healthcare Worker Safety, Medical Commodity Assistance, School Health Program and Community Health.

Spirit of Humanity, is organized in partnership with Abbott, Allergan, Novartis, State Bank of India, Bharat Serums and Vaccines, Ericsson, The Hans Foundation, SPJIMR, Idobro, Guidestar and JW Marriott. AmeriCares is also associated with Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation for significant projects on public health.

The winner of the award will receive prize amount, certificate of excellence from the esteemed organizers, trophy an opportunity to meet the CSR heads to share their work.

 

About the Awards

The Spirit of Humanity Awards, by AmeriCares India- partner with Bristol-Myers Squibb, was launched in 2010, to identify and honor excellence by individuals and NGOs working for the underprivileged, especially in the health care sector. Over the years, Spirit of Humanity has served as a centre of excellence, bringing together leaders across various fields, from the social sector to corporations. The organizers of the award follow a rigorous procedure for shortlisting the entries for the finals. After the nominations were received, the documents were checked by KPMG and ranked by online jury. Following this, pre-final evaluations and final jury announcements take place.
