October 9, 2015: In continuation with Medanta’s endeavour towards enhancing the skills and technical capabilities of physicians from across the country, the Department of Cardiac Anesthesiology conducted the 4th Comprehensive Perioperative Transesophageal Echocardiography Workshop on October3-4, 2015. It was attended by Anesthesiologists, Critical Care physicians, Cardiologists, Cardiac Surgeons and Post Graduate students from various parts of the country to learn state of the art techniques and technology in cardiovascular ultrasound which has revolutionized the perioperative management by delivering more precise patient care.
One of the largest Wet- Labs was conducted where porcein hearts were dissected and echo-anatomic correlation was demonstrated to the delegates by Dr. Manisha Mishra, Director of Cardiac Anesthesiology from Medanta – The Medicity. “Intraoperative transesophageal echocardiography is an integral part of patient management in our operating rooms and now with the latest 3D echocardiography being implemented in routine clinical practice it increases the diagnostic accuracy manifold.” said Dr. Mishra.
Dr. Naresh Trehan, CMD Medanta, is a strong supporter of academic training of doctors which will enable them to upgrade their existing technical skills. “Doctors today have to keep pace with the rapid technological advancements and hence should stay up to date with continuous training”, he said.
Transesophageal Echocardiography is a very rapidly evolving field especially among Anesthesiologists and Critical care physicians. Training young doctors will also help them get better accustomed to the dynamics of the Operating Room. “I was amazed at how much I got to learn in just two days , also the hands-on experience I got with the TTE & TEE Simulator was phenomenal ”, said Hatem Soliman, a foreign delegate, who attended the workshop.
