Geneva, Switzerland, 22 October 2013 – The Abraaj Group has signed on as a Global Community Partner of the World Economic Forum’s Global Shapers Community, a network of Hubs developed and led by young people who are exceptional in their drive to make a contribution to their communities. Today, there are more than 3,000 Global Shapers in 270 Hubs in over 160 countries.

“I am very excited about the partnership between Abraaj and the Global Shapers Community, which is all about empowering the young people that are shaping the world,” said Arif Naqvi, Founder and Group Chief Executive of The Abraaj Group. “It’s important that we understand and help them on their journey and, in any way that we can, enable that journey to come to fruition. We are also hoping to learn from the Global Shapers, what they are concerned about, how they intend to impact their communities, cities, business models, entrepreneurial ecosystems, countries and ultimately the world.”

The Abraaj Group is a leading investor operating in the growth markets of Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East. It manages US$ 7.5 billion across 25 sector and country-specific funds.

As part of the partnership, The Abraaj Group is committed to helping Global Shapers make even stronger contributions to their local communities by facilitating opportunities to interact with and learn from local and national leaders in both the public and private sector. These interactions will serve to amplify the voices of young people and to strengthen their influence. Additional activities include cross-mentoring opportunities between Global Shapers and executives within The Abraaj Group that are designed to maximize the learning and growth of each individual involved.

Fred Sicre, Managing Director at The Abraaj Group added: “Our added value will be to engage the global Abraaj stakeholder community we have built since our inception to support and collaborate with the Global Shapers and in so doing support those shaping our future where we can and help define the trends that will define our future.”

David Aikman, Managing Director at the World Economic Forum welcomed the partnership. “The World Economic Forum is passionate about making the world a better place. And by working with organizations like The Abraaj Group that share our conviction that young people must have a seat at the table, we strengthen an ecosystem that continues to have positive impact locally and globally,” he said.
