ARMY CHIEF ON TWO DAYS VISIT TO VALLEY KASHMIR

            General Bikram Singh, Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) paid a two day visit to the Valley to carry out the review of the security situation and to interact with the troops deployed in the forward areas of Baramulla and Kupwara Sectors as well as the hinterland. The Army Chief also called on HE Shri NN Vohra, the Governor and Mr Omar Abdullah,the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and discussed the prevailing security situation in the Valley.

            The Army Chief arrived at Srinagar Airport on 15 Jul where he was received by Lt Gen Sanjiv Chachra, GOC-in-C Northern Command and Lt Gen Gurmit Singh, Chinar Corps Commander.  The Army Chief visited the Chinar Corps Headquarters where he was given a detailed briefing on the prevailing security scenario in the Kashmir Valley and the ongoing endeavours of Chinar Corps towards enduring peace in the Valley. The General addressed the officers of the entire Northern Command. During his address, partly personally and partly through video conferencing, the General exhorted all to continue to operate with zeal and elan while scrupulously upholding the law of the land, respecting human rights and undertaking synergised people friendly operations.

On 16 Jul 2013, the COAS visited the forward areas and also the hinterland. While interacting with the officers and troops, he gave out his key result areas and stressed upon the secular and apolitical ethos of the Indian Army. He complimented them for their outstanding vigilance, state of preparedness and high morale. The Chief was appreciative of the initiatives under taken by Northern Command and in particular, the Chinar Corps which have led to sustaining the peaceful environment in the Valley. He also lauded the Chinar Corps, Jammu and Kashmir Police, CRPF and other security agencies for their synergised effort in smooth conduct of Shri Amarnathji Yatra as well as other operations.
