i_3203_1ARNOLD & SON

Instrument Collection DSTB

Arnold & Son celebrates its 250 years of history by offering an exceptional model honouring both its British origins and the traditions upheld by the field of Swiss Haute Horlogerie, of which it is one of the finest ambassadors. In tribute to its founding father John Arnold, who together with his son produced the first marine chronometers to be offered in substantial quantities and at reasonable prices, the Instrument Collection DSTB beats to the tune of a new manufacture movement featuring one of the complications most closely associated with the House: deadbeat seconds. In keeping with the original spirit of innovation, the calibre enables this fascinating mechanism to be admired on the dial side through a construction that is unique in the world. Not only does the deadbeat seconds hand perform one-second jumps for all to see, but the three gilt bridges, wheels and yoke are also clearly visible. In a nod to marine chronographers, the latter is shaped like an anchor. Adding the ultimate touch of refinement to this exceptional creation, an extremely elegant lacquered white subdial displays the hours and minutes at 4 o’clock and uses clever layering to create striking 3D effects. 50-piece limited edition.

Women will fall for deliciously vintage, irresistibly glamorous details such as the touches of gold that illuminate a dial in mother-of-pearl. Men will appreciate the clean, pure lines of a watch that will become a family heirloom; an object they can pass down to their son and generations to come. The mechanical version is driven by the Powermatic 80 automatic calibre whose exceptional performance extends to an 80-hour power reserve. Voutilainen GMR

As befits such a virtuoso of complicated timepieces, this new watch by Kari Voutilainen incorporates a second time zone with 24-hour indicator and a retrograde power-reserve indicator. As always, the movement is developed and hand-crafted from start to finish inside the master watchmaker’s workshops, in the peace and tranquillity of the Swiss village of Môtiers. Fashioned from maillechort, this top-flight mechanical movement comprises no fewer than 250 parts and 28 jewels. An ingenious mechanism allows the second time zone to be adjusted by the crown, jumping one hour at each push, rather than turning freely, thus maintaining absolute precision with local time. The movement’s traditional finishes of Côtes de Genève and hand-chamfering can be admired through the sapphire crystal back, while the dial exudes refined elegance. The GMT indication at 6 o’clock embraces the small seconds, mirrored by the retrograde power-reserve indicator at 12 o’clock. 12-piece limited series.

Well accustomed to the art of developing high-performance professional aviation watches, Alpina is enriching its emblematic Startimer Pilot collection with a new chronograph featuring a large date display. Its black dial is inspired by the 1970s Alpina aviator watches, displaying impeccable legibility thanks to the contrasting effect created by the silver-toned counters. While the hour and minute hands are enhanced with white Superluminova, the chronograph seconds hands bears the classic Alpina signature: a red triangle at its base. The sturdy steel case houses the high-precision AL-372 quartz movement serving to power all the chronographs in the Startimer Pilot line. TNT Royal Retro GMT ½ Hour

Pierre DeRoche enriches its TNT Royal Retro with a GMT display adjustable to the nearest half hour not via a corrector, but instead using the crown. An extremely rare phenomenon! To avoid any loss of precision during adjustments, the GMT hours and minutes hands advance in 30-minute increments to guarantee exact half hours, without the movement stopping. A third indicator appears on the white part of the subdial if it is daytime in the zone of the second time zone; or in the black section if it is night-time. Meanwhile, the TNT Royal Retro signature retrograde seconds hands pursue their fascinating path. To spice up the overall effect, two of the six original hands vanish in the lower section of the dial to provide space for the GMT indicator. 201-piece limited series.

Son of a Gun Russian Roulette Glasnost G1

ArtyA takes its Son of a Gun concept to a whole new level: transparency. Serving as a sobering reminder that our time on earth is short, two genuine Flobert 6 mm bullets are fitted to the side of the case, right against the wrist. Suspended and motionless, as if neutralised in mid-air, they are inoffensive even though they have not been fired. The longstanding dream of designer Yvan Arpa has now come true thanks to a new technology: itr²®, standing for Innovation, Technical, Resin and Revolutionary. This composite material charged with carbon nanotubes is four times lighter than titanium. Transparency is in fact an integral of the entire design of the Glasnost G1, since its movement is entirely skeletonised to allow light to shine through its gear wheels, visible through both the sapphire case-back and the iconic dial structured like the barrel of a revolver. Spinning with each move of the wrist, the latter houses a real bullet evoking the fact that life is a game of Russian roulette.

More than ever faithful to its philosophy of offering fine watchmaking at affordable prices, the independent brand from Le Noirmont is offering a new version of its regulator this year. This emblematic model from its collection embodies a perfect blend of traditional and modern elements. The heritage of historical precision instruments appears on the hour subdial at 12 o’clock, bearing finely traced Roman numerals. It is also manifested in the Côtes de Genève motif adorning the dial base as well as the three blued hands. Meanwhile, the contemporary touch is expressed through the highly graphic design of the seconds subdial. Like that of the hours, it is connected to the inner bezel ring by a transversal bar fitted with two secures.
