Bengaluru, 29th June, 2017: Bengalureans were in for a surprise on Thursday morning when they got to witness a flash mob while crossing one of city’s most congested areas, Silk Board Junction. Ola, India’s most popular mobile app for transportation, organized multiple flash mobs in and around that area, engaging tens of thousands of people who cross the busy junction every day. Street plays were also organized at some of the city’s other key locations such as Forum Mall in Koramangala, MG Road Metro Station, and Byappanahalli Metro Station.

Rolled out as part of the recently launched year-long campaign #FarakPadtaHai, the activities were organised to encourage more citizens to opt for Ola Share, Ola’s shared mobility offering, and contribute towards decongesting the city’s roads.

Vishal Kaul, COO at Ola said, “Existing transportation systems are already overwhelmed with capacity, and adding more vehicles is not a sustainable solution, given the rise of traffic and resulting vehicular pollution. It’s time we come together and make smarter choices to ensure smoother commute and make our cities pollution-free once again. We chose the artistic expression route to convey this message and connect with the people. Having reached out to hundreds of thousands of citizens, we are confident of scaling this activity beyond Bengaluru and raising awareness amongst citizens about adopting sustainable and environment-friendly mobility.”

Starting with Bengaluru, Ola’s flash mobs will travel to various cities and will aim to engage more and more commuters in every city. In Bengaluru, the performers appealed to the audience with the message of using shared mobility by dancing to the foot-tapping beats of djembe drums. The creatively choreographed street plays by WeMove Theatre also garnered a warm reception from the onlookers, as the artists unfolded the message at the right time, to the right audience.
