Friday – April 7, 2017Indian sports have evolved dynamically in the recent years giving rise to global talent dominating in multiple sporting disciplines. Indian athletes had been dominating in combat sports capturing global attention in boxing, wrestling, judo and mixed martial arts. Mixed Martial Arts which is the fastest growing sport in the world had witnessed dominance of Indian athletes and the emergence of Indians as global superstars. The growth of the sport had influenced Indian fitness industry, fashion, film industry, economy and cultural exchange.

The exponential growth of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) in India have attracted global organisations to invest and to establish India centric promotions. Apart from economic interests, cultural and diplomatic interests were pivotal in this process.

Asia’s largest MMA promotion Brave Combat Federation owned by His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa is the first truly global promotion to step into the Indian market. KHK MMA found by His Highness Sheikh Khalid had previously supported and nurtured upcoming Indian talent allowing them to compete at a global level. These initiatives did also strengthen economic and diplomatic relations between India and the Kingdom of Bahrain.

Hardeep Rai, Abdul Muneer, Gurdarshan Mangat, Mohammad Farhad, Chaitanya Gavali, Bharat Khandare, Govind Ale, Nelson Paes, Atif Mohammad are few among the first wave of Indian athletes who qualified to be a part of the global promotion. These athletes were the first to represent India in International events in Bahrain, Brazil and Abu Dhabi as a part of Brave Combat Federation. Lack of facilities and infrastructure kept most of the Indian athletes from competing at global events. The lack of support from authorities and corruption in the sport among regional organisers withheld the growth potential. The Bahrain based MMA promotion had supported aggressive expansion plans in India through an initial investment of USD $2 million for talent acquisition and development.

Brave Combat Federation announced its first event in India for the year.
