Celebration, a Tree Plantation Drive 2016 by MUKTI

Raidighi, South 24 Parganas, 16th August: On 15th August 2016, MUKTI had organised a MEGA Plantation Drive, in association with 20 schools and clubs to plant 20,000 saplings, at Purbo Sridharpur, South 24 Parganas, on the occasion of Independence Day. The members of MUKTI along with the local population took a pledge for the plantation drive to combat global warming and climate change.

Shri Biswajit Ghosh, Officer-in-Charge, Raidighi P.S. said, “This tree-planting drive is a great opportunity for us to show our concern for the environment and help diminish the unfavourable effects of pollution, Global Warming and Climate Change and also help people in their livelihood”.

Sankar Halder, President, MUKTI, said, “Population is rising. So people can’t survive on natural resources. Therefore, MUKTI has undertaken the vow to educate the local population about plantation efforts.”

MUKTI organised MEGA Plantation Drive with 20,000 saplings of various varieties such as, Jackfruit, Falsa, Dragon Eye, Palash, Coconut, Aloevera, etc, where the students and faculty members planted many trees to keep the environment clean and maintain the life-support systems of the planet Earth.

MUKTI, a socio-economic development organization, was setup in 2003 and registered with Govt. of India Trust Act 1964, 12A, 80G and FCRA (Foreign Contribution Regulation Act 1976). MUKTI has been working in Sunderban, the Delta region of South 24 Parganas, West Bengal, India covering wider range of the grassroots who are extremely vulnerable to food insecurity and unemployment due to resource dearth caused for natural hazards. Grassroots of Sunderban communities are socially excluded and deprived from service provisions for people’s un-awareness; incommunicable context and misgovernance of service sectors increase vulnerability and violence significantly.
