CYCLATION | FIRST EDITION | KOLKATA – Cycling for Education

About 400 people from school, colleges and corporates participated in the Event for 3, 5, 10 and 25 Kilometres on 16th September, 2018 at Nalban Car Parking, Salt Lake Sector V, Kolkata.

“Cyclation – Cycling for Education” this year presented an opportunity for cycling enthusiasts to support Bhumi in providing education for the underprivileged children, while promoting the ever-refreshing sport of cycling. After two successful editions of Cyclation in Delhi and Bangalore, Bhumi organised the Kolkata edition.

Bhumi, one of India’s largest independent volunteer non-profit organisations, provides comprehensive educational support for over 20,000 underprivileged children across India to become better citizens of tomorrow. This year alone they will be engaging 15,000 volunteers across India.

“We are here for cyclation which is basically an event which is inclined towards awareness amongst people about how important education is for an individual especially for underprivileged. Our main motive is to reach out the underprivileged kids and provide them the basic necessities of life.” Said Siddharth who has been volunteering in Bhumi since a year.

“It was a beautiful experience, first of all, from the volunteers end, we got to know how to manage an event and as we are giving our efforts for a social cause, we took pride in doing that”, said Aritro Chakraborty who has been juggling between work and volunteering since 2016.

Many noted cycling groups like CNG – Cycle Network Grow and Discover on Wheels also participated. About 100 volunteers worked hard to execute this event. Participants were facilitated with T-shirts, medals, certificates and refreshments.

“I am always up for challenges, although it’s not a challenge, it’s for a cause, I am a yoga teacher and I promote education all the time since I had faced many challenges during my college days, I now understand how important education is for a kid” said Priyank who was cycling for education.

People went back satisfied knowing they have contributed for a cause. “I am happy that people went back with a smile” said Neha Singal, City Associate, Bhumi, Kolkata.
