Gurgaon-based Suncity School conferred International Excellence Award for Service to Differently-Abled

Gurgaon: Gurgaon-based Suncity School was conferred 1st International Excellence Award for Service to Disabilities in the Category of contribution for promotion of Inclusive Education in Institutional Segment at a ceremony held at the India International Centre (IIC) in New Delhi. The award has been envisaged as a platform to recognize and celebrate those people committed to Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Special Needs, Community Counseling and Psycho-Social Development. Instituted by Association for Disabled People and Association of Special Educators and Allied Professionals in Association with Para Sports Foundation, the award recognized path- breaking work done by Suncity School in the field of inclusive education and empowerment of persons with disabilities through interventions in accessibility, advocacy, employment, trainings, education, sensitization, sports and culture.

Ms. Rupa Chakravarty, Principal Suncity School received the award on behalf of the institution from Hon’ble Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Shri Thawar Chand Gehlot.

On the occasion, Chief Guest Hon’ble Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Shri Thawar Chand Gehlot said: “Every individual is unique and blessed with talent. The Modi government has taken a slew of initiatives to empower persons with disabilities. However, it is not only the government’s but also each and every individual’s responsibility to take initiative to encourage the differently-abled.”

Ms. Rupa Chakravarty said: “It is a privilege for us to receive the award. We, at Suncity School, have adopted an inclusive approach to empower people with disabilities. In an attempt to sensitize children towards differently- abled, we take our students on a regular visit to special schools. The infrastructure of the entire school is also disabled-friendly.”

Ms. Rupa Chakravarty, Founding Principal of Suncity School,  has played a pivotal role in encouraging the differently-abled youth. The school is one of the rarest in the NCR to have an entire building designed in a manner to ensure that differently-abled do not face any hassles.  The school has special arrangements for special children such as ramps and disabled -friendly toilet on every floor. Each student is allocated responsibility to oversee special children in turns and ensure that they do not face any inconvenience.
