Holi is just around the corner and it is that time of the year again when the streets and people are awash with color and jubilance. In keeping with the festivities, as relatives and friends traipse through the house, a lively interior can only add to the vibrancy of the festival around. This can be done in ways that add an aura of celebration without straining the budget, with just minor changes in the decor.
Rangoli
Holi, the festival of colors is just round the corner and what better way to deck up your home for it than a nice, bright and colorful rangoli at the entrance? A rangoli at the entrance of the home is said to bring in good luck. While a rangoli is a staple at any festive occasion, Holi calls for a rangoli that is full of colors.
Dance & Music
A Holi party without dance and music is as bland as salt less food. Keep the interest of your guests in mind while preparing the playlist. Include your personal favorites so that your Holi bash reflects your mood and temper. Apart from playing recorded music, arrangement of live music will set the perfect mood. Arrange for a dholak or a dhol and watch your Holi party go berserk.
Food and drinks
Holi festivities call for some delicious food items that are traditionally associated with the celebrations of this colorful festival. Make good arrangement of Indian snacks that would involve easy-eating while playing with colors. Don’t forget traditional sweets like ladoos, malpuas and gujiyas as they are dedicatedly known to be Holi sweets. For drinks, consider your preference for soft, semi-hard drinks including ‘thandai’. Also arrange for fruits and fruit punch as refreshing beverage. Use disposable dishes to save yourself from cleaning effort and the staining of your prized cutlery.
Colors
Understandably, Holi colors have to be of the best quality. Today you can purchase lot of organic colors available in the market that would not harm skin. Infact the colors need to be dry that could be washed off easily. Be it wet or dry colors; opt for organic and natural colors for keeping your skin and eyes safe. Keep several bowls and plates of dry colors and several buckets full of water ready to prevent going inside the home frequently.
Colorful Furnishing
A splash of color, indoors as well, can only add to the overall look. Old chairs or settees can be reupholstered with brighter, richer fabrics. In case you don’t want to make any permanent changes, try playing around with curtain colors and bedspreads for an easy way to animate the entire space.
