India’s youth come together to celebrate their achievement
The International Award for Young People,India rewards Gold Achievers and Award Leaders at the Annual Gold Award Ceremony.
New Delhi, July 15, 2016:Have you or your teen ever been rewarded with an Award for getting out of your comfort zone? This is what happened today at the Annual Gold Award Ceremony of the world’s leading youth achievement award,‘The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award’ (running as ‘The International Award for Young People,India’).
The ceremony was organized at India International Centre where 111 Gold Award Holders and 51 Award Leaders across India were felicitated by the chief guest Mr. Abbas Ali Baig, former member of the Indian cricket team. The ceremony was also attended by the principals and directors of various educational and other institutions.
The International Award for Young People,India is the most adaptable and successful youth empowerment programme. The Award is the process of experiential learning through individual challenges.
The Programme is a non-competitive youth development programme that caters to young people aged between 14 and 24 years, regardless of their background, abilities or circumstances. Anyone,including the differently abled, can enroll for the Award. The Award Programme aims to bring together practical experiences and life skills to create committed global citizens and equip young people for life. It encourages the participants to plan their leisure time in an exciting way, while addressing holistic development and growth. The Programme rewards continuous effort and achieving of goals by the participants.
The simple philosophy of the Award Programme is to connect people, institutions and generations with the common purpose of youth development and inclusion.
The Award, which started in the UK in 1956 and was introduced in India in 1962, is available to young people in over 140 countries and has impacted the lives of 11 million young people so far. Currently, there are 1.1 million young people across the world who are pursuing their Award Journey.
The ceremony provided a platform for Gold Award Holders and Award Leaders from different parts of the country to share their stories of achievements under one roof. They talked about how their Award Journey has challenged them to achieve their objectives in life and further take leadership roles in society.
Kapil Bhalla, National Director, The International Award for Young People (IAYP), India said, “We are glad that we are here to celebrate the achievements of young people who have successfully concluded their Award Journey by completing the Gold level. Doing the Award has taken these people out of their comfort zone – getting out and about and doing something different.”
Commenting on the Award Programme, Bivujit Mukhoty, Programme Manager, IAYP India, said, “The Award Programme is an amazing opportunity for young people to discover their talent and to be good citizens of the country.”
The Award in India is implemented through Youth Engaging in Society (‘YES’) Centres. Currently, IAYP India has 232 YES Centres and more than 35,000 participants across India, which includes schools, including state government schools, colleges, universities, corporate entities, and NGO’s.
