MCCI Destination Haldia Forum 2018: Spearheading Sustainable & Inclusive Growth

Merchants’ Chamber of Commerce & Industry organized the 2nd Seminar on Haldia, titled “MCCI Destination Haldia Forum 2018” on 25th May, 2018 at Satish Samanta Trade Centre Auditorium, Haldia. The sessions were :

  • Inaugural Session : “Spearheading Sustainable & Inclusive Growth”
  • Session II : “Growth Churners for Haldia : Oil, Petrochemicals, Downstream Industries & MSMEs”
  • Session III : “Smart City of Haldia : Education, Health & Services Sector”

The Seminar was inaugurated by Shri Suvendu Adhikari, Hon’ble Minister for Transport, Government of West Bengal and Chairman, Haldia Development Authority, who addressed the Forum as the Chief Guest.

Addressing the Forum Shri Suvendu Adhikati spoke about the growth potential of Haldia, in which more than Rs 50,000 cr. were invested by the private investors. He referred to the industry friendly atmosphere in Haldia where strikes were not allowed. He also mentioned about increasing use of industrial safety measures. He spoke about the recent initiatives like setting up of a 50–bed trauma care centre. He felt that Haldia Dock Complex, the profit earning entity should be separated from Kolkata Port Trust and given a separate identity in the name of Haldia Port Trust.

Speaking about availability of land of 600 acres, Shri Adhikari invited the business community to invest in Haldia for further development as also in CSR activities for beautification and making the township clean and green.

This Forum is a part of the Outreach programmes of the Chamber, with a mission to reach out to Tier II & Tier III towns in the districts of the state.
