MIAL gets a five-star grading in the British Safety Council’s (BSC) Five Star Occupational Health and Safety Audit

Mumbai, May 15, 2017: GVK Mumbai International Airport Pvt. Limited (MIAL), the company that administers the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA), was graded with a five-star rating in the recent ‘Five Star Occupational Health and Safety’ Audit conducted by the British Safety Council (BSC), one of the most stringent Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) Management System Audits.

As part of the audit, MIAL underwent a detailed, quantified and objective evaluation of its occupational health and safety management system. The process measured the company’s performance against a number of key best practice indicators, and was awarded the highest (Five Star) rating.

The BSC’s Five Star Occupational Health & Safety Audit provides organizations with a worldwide benchmark of their safety management systems against current best practices to enable continual improvement. The audit specifications include five best practice indicators – leadership, stakeholder engagement, risk management, organizational health and safety culture and continual improvement – which are continually assessed throughout the audit process.  The audit places a greater emphasis on the organization’s approach to occupational health, employee wellbeing, safety culture, allocation of resources to health and safety and planning for change; all of which are considered important best practice factors.

In 2014, MIAL had approached British Safety Council to assess its OH&S Management System, whereby MIAL was awarded a Five-Star rating.
