Jaipur, December 11, 2015: India’s leading Technical and research institution, The Malaviya National Institute of Technology, Jaipur (MNIT) concluded its 10th convocation today i.e 11th December, 2015. This extravaganza event was graced by the Chief Guest Padma Vibhushan Prof. R. A. Mashelkar, Former Director General of the Council of Scientsific & Industrial Research (CSIR) and eminent scientists of India and the Guest of Honour Padma Shri Dr. Upendra Kaul, Executive Director – Academics & Research (Cardiology), Fortis Escorts Heart Institute. In 52 years the MNIT boasts 9 UG programs, 20 PG programs including PhD in all disciplines. The dignitaries were accompanied by Prof. I.K Bhatt, Director, MNIT, Jaipur alongwith all the faculties of MNIT.
A total of 1177 degrees including 63 B.Arch, 740 B.Tech, 261 M.Tech/M Planning, 51 M.Sc., 27 MBA and 35 PhD degrees were awarded. About 9 students were awarded with gold medals and secured first position in B. Tech and B. Arch programmes. Similarly, 22 students of post graduate programmes also were awarded with Gold Medals for securing first positions.
Padma Vibhushan Prof. R.A Mashelkar, Former Director General of the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) said, “I heartily congratulate the grandaunts of the day. We must realize that we are entering into a challenging VUCA world which is volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous. MNIT as an institution over the years has fully equipped it’s students with skills and tools to deal with the challenges of the world confidently. ‘Education in innovation’ and ‘Innovation in education’ are the dire needs of the hour. World class universities will need to achieve this twin goal and MNIT Jaipur must have a dream to become a world class institution with seamless integration of education, research and innovation. Education disseminates known knowledge and Research creates new knowledge. ‘Ambience without Ambition and Ambition without Ambience has no consequences. MNIT has one of the best campus which is fully equipped to create bright ambitious young talent for the nation.”
Padma Vibhushan Professor R.A Mashelkar also elaborated on three pillars for creating world class universities which included, excellence, autonomy and governance. He said, “Excellence- where mere teaching without research is futile. Uncompromising excellence in both teaching and research is important. Autonomy- where autonomy or flexibility must flow across the university from teachers to students. Governance- where governance structure of Universities must change with changing times. Transparent regulatory mechanism that ensures accountability will instill a sense of confidence in the academic community and the society as well.” He shared his 10 golden rules to success such as a)Your aspirations are your possibilities b) Be limitless in your imagination as there is no limite to human endurance, human achievement and human imagination c)There is no substitute for hard work d)There is no instant success e) Success is not an accident f) Do not wait for opportunities to know the door, if the opportunity does not knock, build a door g) Remember that; Innovator is the one who sees what everyone else sees but thinks what no one else think h) Continue to be creative i) Remember, innovator is the one who does not know that it cannot be done j) Every India must stand for innovation and not inhibition or imitation.
Padma Shri Dr. Upendra Kaul, Executive Director – Academics & Research (Cardiology), Fortis Escorts Heart Institute said, “I feel honored and privileged to be invited for the 10th Convocation ceremony at MNIT, Jaipur. Prof. Upendra Kaul concluded by mentioning that, Work-Life-Balance is utmost important. To maintain these one must take care of both the body and mind which is most of the times neglected. He concluded with a teaching from Swami Vivekanand, ‘Teach yourself, teach everyone, his/her real nature, call upon the sleeping soul and see how it awakes. Power will come, glory will come, goodness will come, purity will come and everything that is excellent will come when this sleeping soul is roused to self-conscious activity which is in the interest of the well-being of the members of the society.’
Prof. I.K Bhatt, Director, Malaviya National Institute of Technology said, “I thank Padma Vibhushan Prof. R.A Mashelkar and Padmashri Dr. Upendra Kaul to take time out of their schedules and make their presence at the MNIT’s 10th Convocation Ceremony. It is a prestigious occasion where such eminent personalities have come together to not just grace the occasion but their presence has also motivated our students genuinely. The institute has recruited faculty from across the globe having merit and this has drawn researchers and faculty having a combination of merit and diligence. Our faculty delegations at MNIT have presented various research papers in countries such as USA, Canada, France, Taiwan, Korea and Singapore. Prof. I K Bhat further added, “The Malaviya National Institute of Technology has various plans and up-coming projects such as the Vivekanand Lecture Theatre Complex which will be operational in the next 2-3 months. The MNIT will be building over 200 residential accommodations to accommodate new faculty members who will be recruited. The institute will be constructing a complete sports complex in the near future with an estimated project cost of over Rs. 20 crore. We at the MNIT shall strive to upgrade our standards, create an environment of learning, innovation and entrepreneurship to provide excellence and aim to produce useful talent for our nation.”
The present intake for Undergraduate programs is 785 and for Post graduate program is 745. The institute has registered about 100 new PhD scholars for the year 2015-16 and has today around 500 PhD scholars working full time in the institute.
The 10th Convocation Ceremony at the Malaviya National Institute of Technology was initiated with an academic procession including the chief guest, guest of honour, chairman senate and the senate members. The Registrar led the procession which ended at the convocation area. Convocation programme was concluded by singing the national anthem and the vote of thanks delivered by prof. M.K Shrimali, Registrar, MNIT.
