Nant takes Gold at the World Spirit Awards

nantAward winning status for Nant Distilling Company on the world stage

18 February 2015: Nant Distilling Company has again achieved international acclaim at the prestigious World Spirit Awards in Europe for two of its single malt expressions. The Tasmanian distiller continues to go from strength to strength, boasting a Gold medal win for its American Oak Sherry Wood 43% and Silver for its French Oak Pinot Noir Wood 43% expression.

The World Spirit Awards are considered by some industry insiders as the ‘World Championships’ of the international awards and the highest accolade by the industry. They are judged by the most distinguished and discerning palates, those with decades of experience required to recognise a quality spirit when they taste it.

The award win is Nant’s latest achievement, having twice won ‘Liquid Gold’ status in the ranking system used by the world’s leading authority on the whisky, Jim Murray, in his annual whisky bible.

Owner and CEO Keith Batt is thrilled with the latest win, “Once again we have had a fantastic result. The international attention Nant has received in its short history has earned us a reputation for being one of the best traditional distilleries of single malt whisky in the world.”

“Our Sherry Wood 43% in particular continues to attract global attention, taking Gold in the China Wine and Spirits Awards in 2014”.

Mr Batt said the prestige of the award also brings significant attention to the Tasmanian single malt industry, which is now recognised as world class.

Passion and respect for traditional pot still distillation methods combined with smaller barrels, carefully selected timbers and innovative barrelling techniques underpin Nant’s success.

As a top of class product, Nant’s consumers appreciate the complexity of the barrelling process and value the quality and flavour profiles of its premium whisky range.

An increased interest from Australians for quality whisky saw Nant open its own branded bars in 2012 and today, more than 100,000 whisky drinkers enjoy a dram at Nant Whisky Bars in Melbourne, Brisbane and Hobart.

In the year ahead Nant will open a flagship bar in Sydney and a second venue in Melbourne, while internationally expansion plans are underway in both Singapore and London.

Nant Estate has been growing barley since 1821 and is one of only a handful of farm-based whisky distilleries in the world.

The Estate welcomes more than 25,000 visitors to its distillery, working farm, restaurant and cellar door each year.
