NASSCOM AND THE INDIAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY MADRAS SIGN AN MOU TO COLLABORATE FOR THE FUTURESKILLS INITIATIVE AND BUILD AN EQUIPPED WORKFORCE

The partnership will help establish an extensive training program for the next generation of potential employees for the Indian IT Industry

New Delhi, 14 December 2018:As part its ongoing efforts to drive re-skilling initiatives for the industry, The National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM) today announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras). This collaboration is inline with NASSCOM’s Future Skills Platform, that is targeted at reskilling /upskilling 4 million people from the IT-ITeS industry, students entering the workforce and employees of other industries/government who need to learn digital skills of the future. The partnership will facilitate the building of an able workforce to support the industry and other stakeholders. This will ensure that there is plenty of trained manpower for the jobs being created in the evolving ecosystem.

The MoU was signed by Prof. K. Mangala Sunder  (for Skills Academy, IIT Madras) and Prof. Kushal Sen, IIT Delhi,on behalf of NPTEL project  and Mr. Amit Aggarwal, CEO, IT-ITeS Sector Skills Council NASSCOM.

The partnership will be directly with the Sector Skills Council (SSC) which is the education and skill development initiative of NASSCOM. The SSC works with its industry members and select academic and skill development institutions to help improve the quality and quantity of the employable workforce available to this industry. The SSC and IIT Madras will work towards building a skills academy and establish a program with extensive courses and training programs to facilitate skill building in the institution.

Speaking on the occasion, Amit Aggarwal,CEO, IT-ITES Sector Skills Council, NASSCOM, said, “This is a landmark MoU between NASSCOM and IIT Madras and will be a significant catalyst for theIT-ITS industry’s FutureSkills initiative, which aims to get India accelerated on the path to becoming the global hub for talent for the new emerging technologies like AI, IOT, Cyber Security, Big Data, Cloud and BlockChain. This partnership with NPTEL will help us to build a future-ready workforce, ready to work with emerging technologies and cutting-edge skills in IT and contribute meaningfully to the tech sector.”

Welcoming the signing of the MoU, Prof.K. Mangala Sunder, an Eminent Academician (IIT Madras) and also member of the Governing Council, IT-ITeS Sector Skills Council NASSCOM (SSC NASSCOM),expressed happiness that the country’s premier Sector Skill Council has come forward to spread the outstanding effort of the IIT Academic Community which has resulted in the creation of the world’s largest online learning repository in Engineering Education in both India and abroad. The knowledge initiative FutureSkills will hopefully become the world’s most significant online engineering education and skilling platform.   It is also a great boost and recognition to the efforts of the last fifteen years and the whole hearted funding and policy support of the Ministry of Human Resource Development of the Government of India for digital online learning.  He was pleased to note that the faculty groups of IITs and other technical institutions have now moved forward to include industry competence requirements through close collaboration with Indian industries, to help our graduates secure gainful employment, and professionals to move horizontally as well as vertically in their reskilling with fundamentals.”

Such a collaboration will form an alliance that works towards the governmentinit iatives to support the IT sector and technology workforce of the country.
