June 08, 2017: ‘Rahul – The Hidden Truth’ by Zefaan Kanwar, a young, determined filmmaker from the capital has been selected for a screening at Global Impact International Film Festival & Awards (GIIFFA) 2017 amongst 1500 films submitted this year.
Rahul – The Hidden Truth staring multiple actors, filmed at a slum, tells the story of a hopeful 11 year old child, Rahul who believes to bring comfort to his mother overcoming the odds of desperate poverty. The film addresses our right to attain education and a chance to chase our dreams and how poverty limits our options. Through the documentary, Zefaan provides needful resources to Rahul helping him fulfill his dreams.
While we are oblivious to their pains of others due to our busy schedules, Zefaan being in school himself, compelled by the angst of poverty has filmed his experience while trying to help a clutch of slum kids by supplying them with resources to help achieve their dreams. The subtle aspect of the actors sentiments, expression of hope are beautifully woven into the film while upholding the hard hitting truth of life. Such noble act of benevolence by him has not only brought back smile to the faces of deprived kids but left behind a deeper message. If such acts of humanity are developed for the lesser fortunate, world will surely become a more compassionate place to dwell for the next generation.
GIIFFA is one of India’s biggest International Film Festival and Awards starting from June 9 – 11, 2017 at World Mark, Aerocity, New Delhi, India. Popular faces from the Bollywood including filmmakers, Vivek Agnihorti, Anurag Kashyap, Gulshan Grover, Purab Kohli are amongst the 20 membered jury this year.
At the young age of 15, Zefaan’s inclination towards film making made him study various programs at reputed universities across the globe like New York Film Academy, Yale University, Columbia University to master the skill. He has been inspired by the works of Quentin Tarantino, Stanley Kubrick, Martin Scorsese and has directed various videos and theatre plays at high school level. Most of them have received superb reviews and had sold out evenings. He has single handedly directed 6 short films covering different genres and human aspect, ‘Rahul – The Hidden Truth’ being one of them.
Commenting on why he decided on this subject, Zefaan said, ‘Most of us live in a comfortable environment and take many things for granted, whereas there are people like Rahul who appreciate almost everything. Thus, if we have the resources it is our duty to help those in need so that they can achieve their dreams as well, and most importantly, every gesture counts.’
