Jewellery retailers across the Middle East are set to change the way they operate following the regional launch of a new technology device unveiled at Dubai International Jewellery Week.

Introduced by Tagit RFID Solutions, a leading Radio Frequency Identification solutions company, the cloud-based Tagit Counter can track, monitor and provide crucial data on millions of pieces of jewellery in stores.  It is the only footfall-counting solution in the world that separates the movement of visitors and staff, and provides essential details on how customers interact with store merchandise.

Hassan Bin Jamal, Sales Director, Tagit RFID Solutions, said: “Dubai International Jewellery Week has been the perfect platform for us to launch the Tagit Counter device. Most of our existing clients are here at the show and we’re actively courting new customers and explaining how adopting RFID technology will transform their business.”

“Retail is becoming the heartbeat of the GCC economy and more malls and retail outlets are opening regularly. Dubai International Jewellery Week allows us to demonstrate to jewellery retailers and traders how they can improve their businesses by implementing our technology solutions, which ultimately increase ROI, sales and efficiency.”

With clients in the UAE, India, Hong Kong and Belgium, Tagit RFID is among the first companies to implement RFID technology and has plans to attract additional clients beyond its existing markets. Based on continual research and development in RFID capabilities, Tagit has pioneered solutions for blue chip companies and sectors that were previously unexposed to RFID’s modern, time-saving and cost-effective results.

The 19th edition of Dubai International Jewellery Week enjoyed a successful start on Wednesday as major jewellery brands from around the world gathered in Dubai to launch spectacular new collections at the Middle East region’s most influential jewellery event.

Throughout the four-day show, the International Gemological Institute DMCC (IGI) is hosting an on-site mobile diamond jewellery testing laboratory. Visitors to the event can receive expert real-time advice on the quality and authenticity of their diamond jewellery from IGI, the world’s largest independent gem certification and appraisal institute for diamonds, coloured gemstones and jewellery.

As well as verbal consultations on diamond jewellery, visitors to the IGI booth (C2 – 54) at the show can also source information on professional courses offered by the IGI School of Gemology. The institute offers globally-recognised programmes for diamond and jewellery industry professionals and aspiring jewellery designers.

Nico D’Haemer, Managing Director, IGI Dubai,,said: “We decided to set up the mobile laboratory at Dubai International Jewellery Week to create more awareness among consumers about the importance of certification when purchasing diamond jewellery. We are giving an approximate verbal grade for any diamond-studded jewellery at our booth.

“Visitors who then wish to submit their pieces for final certification will receive a 15 per cent discount at our laboratory at IGI DMCC to enable them to understand the exact quality of their jewellery.”

Running until 6 December, Dubai International Jewellery Week has delivered striking new jewellery, unique advice from industry experts and the best new design talent from more than 380 exhibitors from 30 countries. With more than 800 brands on show, the event offers the perfect opportunity for jewellery enthusiasts, collectors, designers, retailers and wholesalers from around the world to come together and share their passion for the industry at the region’s leading jewellery buying event.

This year, Samsung is also running an exclusive Dubai International Jewellery Week Photo Competition, encouraging visitors to find Samsung promoters on the show floor and take a photo with them for a chance to win a Samsung Galaxy Note 4. Two devices will be given away daily during the duration of the show.
