Session with Shri Manohar Parrikar, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Goa on ‘Investment Opportunities in Goa’

MCCI organized a session with Shri Manohar Parrikar, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Goa today at Chamber Hall.

Shri Deepak Jalan, President, MCCI invited Shri Parrikar’s views on ‘Land Issue in the context of rapid industrialization’, ’Upgrading the existing Infrastructure to curb growth constraints’, ’Ending Illegal Mining’, ’Integrating Knowledge Economy with mainstream economy by enhancing Information Technology, ITES and R&D Activities’, ’Raising Tourist footfalls’, in Goa.

Shri Parrikar proclaimed that ‘Goa has -the cleanest environment among States without any polluting industry’; the ‘best law and order in the country with zero tolerance to drugs and atrocities; ’one of the cheapest industry power tariff of INR 3.30 per unit and imparts equal status to women with zero mortality at birth’. Goa is the ‘Pharma Bowl of the country’ being home to 13-14% of all Pharma companies. On ‘illegality of export of iron ore as raw material’- Shri Parrikar assured that Goa exported 44 Million Tonne of iron ore during last fiscal after satisfying the local demand.

Shri Parrikar demanded the need of a clear Government of India policy initiative to safeguard local produce by placing a proper anti-dumping duty on raw material import. Goa has ample land for industries with 40% reserved for quarter acre plots and the rest for bigger plots. Agricultural land is not convertible. ‘100% rise of Tourism’; ‘Opening up of another Aiport at Mopa’; ‘garnering more investment on Education and Service industries’ are in the planned kitty of the visiting Chief Minister in near future. The Hon’ble Minister does not advocate FDI in Retail sector.
