Shades of India Unveils the BAIYU Collection

What’s better than a nice rainy day spent with friends, reminiscing old times over coffee? Shades and white –Baiyu celebrates this spirit as it introduces #SOIfriends through its monsoon launch. The Baiyu collection is an ode to the rainy season in Japan known as baiyu, which literally transforms to ‘plum rain’, because it coincides with the season of plums ripening.

Drawing inspiration from classic Japanese motifs derived from Sashiko patterns, the clothes have beautiful complimentary colors with clever cuts that cater to the contemporary women of today- who are feminine, free spirited and independent. Thus #SOIfriends features five women who are all from different walks of life and age groups. They find a common thread in the design story of Baiyu.

I felt I could do so by using traditional motifs from Japan”, says Mandeep Nagi, Design Director of Shades of India. “The dragonfly is a symbol of the samurai (the Japanese warrior). To me that stands for a person who never gives up. The dragonfly is thus an inspiration for any woman.”
