Shriram Foundation in association with Wockhardt Foundation launches healthcare centre in Navi Mumbai

Also starts an activity centre for children of truck drivers and transporters community

Navi Mumbai, February, 2016: In its commitment to support transporters and truck drivers’ community, Shriram Foundation, the social arm of Shriram Group, today launched ‘Nishulka Swastha Seva Kendra – a free healthcare centre at Kalamboli in Navi Mumbai, to provide free medical assistance to drivers. To ensure quality treatment, Shriram Foundation has tied up with Wockhardt Foundation to operate and manage this clinic. Wockhardt Foundation is a not-for-profit organization known for its committed service to the poor, weak, and needy.

Chief Guest, Mr. S. B. Sahastrabudhe – Add. Transport Commissioner Maharashtra along with Guest of Honour, Mr. Umesh G. Revankar graced the occasion to inaugurate the Healthcare Centre.  Special Guest for the event, Ms. Samina Khorakiwala, CEO-Khel Khel Mein, Wockhardt Foundation was also present at this occasion.

The initiative is supported by Bombay Transport Cooperative Consumer Society (BTCC) and the Gurdwara Committee who have provided space for the clinic.

On this occasion, Shriram Foundation has also started an initiative for the children of the truck drivers and transporters through Wockhardt Foundation’s Khel Khel Mein programme, an edu recreational initiative for the underprivileged children to teach them human values and good habits through fun and play.

On the occasion, Mr. Umesh.G. Revankar, Managing Director, Shriram Transport Finance Company Ltd. (STFC) said, “It is our endeavour to improve the lives of truckers by providing quality healthcare, education and financial assistance. The new healthcare centre will definitely come as a necessary aid to our drivers and their families who will have the convenience of availing medical assistance free of cost.”

With health of truck drivers being essential to their well being and work, Shriram Foundation has launched this healthcare centre to generate health awareness among the transporters and drivers. At this clinic, the basic health checkup and primary treatment will be given free of cost.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Samina Khorakiwala, CEO-Khel Khel Mein, Wockhardt Foundation said, “We are happy to associate with Shriram Foundation in this noble cause. While the health of the drivers will be taken care of by our dedicated doctors, our Khel Khel Mein centre will help inculcate social values and civic sense among children besides providing them with basic learning and reading.”

This clinic is situated at Gurudwara Sri Guru Nanak Sackhand Sabha in Kalamboli, Navi Mumbai and would be operational 6 days in a week from 10 am to 12 pm.
