Stefano Benazzo: Wrecks

Stefano Benazzo, photographer; Jean Blanchaert, editor

A photographic testimony to maritime history and the inevitability of decline

Replete with more than 100 gorgeously shot photographs and introduced by texts from Jean Blanchaert, Roberto Mutti and the photographer himself, Stefano Benazzo: Wrecks documents and preserves shipwrecks from around the world, bound to inevitable decline in the elements to which they are exposed.

Benazzo’s powerful and alluring images of these magnificent sea cathedrals — shot over the course of decades along coastlines around the globe — resurrect the memories of the sailors and immigrants they once carried. Though the subjects of the photographs may at first seem bleak and desolate, Benazzo’s camera reveals their beauty, history and perseverance. Stefano Benazzo: Wrecks is, finally, a photographic book on hope.
