Thomson Reuters and Philips Sign Multi-Year Contract for IP Business Intelligence

thompson reutersAMSTERDAM, June 25, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — The Intellectual Property & Science business of Thomson Reuters, the world’s leading provider of intelligent information for businesses and professionals, today announced it is working with Royal Philips , a Netherlands -based technology company diversified in healthcare, consumer lifestyle and lighting, to help protect its brand and inventions.

The two companies are forging new frontiers via a multi-year, multi-product relationship designed to foster, accelerate and ultimately protect innovation. Philips has a dedicated global department – Philips Group Innovation – which is focused on the value that innovation can bring to the world through Philips’ products and solutions. Within Philips Group Innovation sits Intellectual Property & Standards (IP&S), the unit responsible for all IP matters within Philips. Philips IP&S uses several IP Solutions from Thomson Reuters in the area of IP Intelligence. Prior to working with Thomson Reuters, Philips used an assortment of intellectual property solutions for IP Intelligence from various providers, as well as an internally developed patent landscaping tool. These resources were disparate and costly to maintain.

“Thomson Reuters is a trusted partner of the Intellectual Property & Standards group at Philips. Through our work with Thomson Reuters, we are able to better protect Philips’ innovative solutions,” said Gerard van der Ligt , director Business Intelligence, Philips Intellectual Property & Standards.

The unique and sophisticated approach Philips takes to its IP matters requires resources that meet a number of criteria, including data quality, platform reliability, global support, transparency of costs and the overall strategic fit with the supplier. Thomson Reuters is providing solutions that are more compatible and cost efficient than the previous systems. Furthermore, Thomson Reuters has gained the trust of the Philips team by demonstrating its intellectual property knowledge and expertise.

“It is a pleasure to collaborate with Philips and protect their innovations,” said David Brown, managing director, Thomson Reuters IP Solutions. “Our relationship is mutually beneficial. While Philips benefits from our products and expertise, we gain an innovative partner and valuable insight into our product development.”

The IP Solutions utilized by Philips include Derwent World Patents Index® (DWPI(SM)), the world’s most authoritative patent collection with 50 data sources; Thomson Data Analyzer , software that manages insights from patent and scientific data; Thomson Innovation , the leading  IP intelligence and collaboration platform; SAEGIS ® and Trademark Watch from Thomson CompuMark ; and Westlaw Litigator .
