ThyssenKrupp gives new ‘Parco della Musica e della Cultura’ in Florence, Italy a lift

thyssenkruppMobility inside one of Europe’s most modern theatre and opera complexes is ensured by ThyssenKrupp’s advanced transportation systems.

Fourteen ThyssenKrupp elevator systems provide easy access for the new, but already iconic, Parco della Musica e della Cultura in Florence. The comfortable and efficient passenger transportation systems are designed to offer effortless passage to the public, artists and staff. In order to ensure efficient mobility, passenger and goods elevators were placed in designated areas as per a specific study developed to encourage the flow of people coming in and out, to, and from this immense multifunctional centre, as well as the handling of technical equipment by staff personnel.

First opened on December 21, 2011, the Parco della Musica e della Cultura is located within the Parco delle Cascine, a redeveloped area formerly owned by the Ferrovie dello Stato (Italian railways). The centre is located along the fault line that separates the ancient stone gem of the historic centre from the surrounding landscaped countryside, and plays a significant role in the integration between the different parts of the city.

The project has a complex structure: a massive base topped by a sloping plinth hosts the Opera House, with a capacity of 1,800 seats, the Concert Hall for 1,100 visitors, and the parallelepiped stage tower. A large elevated square covering much of the structure gives access to the “cavea” of an open-air amphitheater with room for another 2,200 guests, located above the Opera House.

“Our installations at the new Parco della Musica e della Cultura of Florence demonstrate that ThyssenKrupp Elevator Italia offers valuable support to any architectural solution,” states Luigi Maggioni, CEO of ThyssenKrupp Elevator Italia, adding, “Versatility and flexibility are just two of the many features that allow our systems to fit harmoniously in any environment.”

In this major public project, which is amongst the most innovative in the European landscape, great attention has been paid to acoustics and stagecraft, for which specialists of international renown were consulted. This detailing gives the Parco della Musica e della Cultura, which is also home to the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, immense prestige and international recognition.
