Time for IIM Lucknow students to drop their business formals and showcase their creativity and talent.

It’s that time of the year again when the rigorous academic activities at IIM Lucknow would gel with fun filled sports and cultural activities. Varchasava 2013- the annual cultural & sports festival of IIM Lucknow is here.

The 6th edition of Varchasva will be held this year from October 4-6, 2013. With prizes worth Rs. 5 Lakhs, Varchasva shall attract participation nearly 100+ top undergrad and MBA institutes like IITs, IIMs, DU, NIFT, etc. There will be acts from acclaimed artists such as Euphoria and Rashtiya Kala Academy’s Kathak dance troupe. Increasing the glam quotient will be Jashn – The Fashion Parade of Varchasva.

The events of Varchasva are organised over six categories – Sports, Theatre, Dance, Music, Literary, Fashion and Informals. While the sports, theatre, dance, music and fashion categories require online registration before the fest, the Literary and Informal activities shall have spot registration.

Students will battle out for the Varchasava cup across 13 sporting events including Cricket, Football, Basketball, Snooker, Squash, TT and Swimming. The fest also provides a platform for online gaming enthusiasts to fight it out in Counter strike, Age of Empires, DoTA and NFS

In theatre, participants for Halla Bol, the street play, shall be tasked with promoting social causes to people who need to be aware of them the most – the villagers in and around the city. The theme for this year’s Halla Bol is ‘AIDS Awareness’.

Participants in the Dance category shall showcase their flair, fire and sheer flamboyance in the Imperio (Group), Inferno (Street) and Vibes (Solo) events. A new event, Vivakshita, shall be held in Varchasva 2013 to showcase Classical Dance.

A one -of a kind art marathon spanning 3 hours will also be held where participants can showcase their creativity in junk art, rangoli making, face painting, sketching and dress designing.

The festival also provides a platform for budding rock stars and singers to make their mark with competitions like Uttarang (Hindi band) and Stairway to Hell (English band). Musicians, both budding and experienced, shall be ever-present at the All-Night Jam Session.

A plethora of events have been planned for those with the gift of the gab. The Varchasva Debate – which last year had cash prizes of Rs. 25,000 – shall be the staging ground to compose, oppose, put forth and make yourself heard. Spellathons, trivia, 20 questions and many more challenges will take place all throughout the day in Literary Gladiators.

There’s also plenty in store for quizzing enthusiasts. In addition to the Varchasva Quiz, participants may also compete in the SpEnt (Sports & Entertainment) and Strat quizzes.

Samavesh, the traditionally classical inaugural night, shall feature a Kathak performance by the splendid dancers of the Rashtriya Kala Academy. The Varchasva Pro Nite shall feature a headlining performance by the inimitable Euphoria – the biggest popular music band in India, with hits such as Dhoom, Maaeri and Mehfuz under their belt.

Varchasva 2013 shall also host the Sahara Force India Pit Stop event, a spot event where participants shall emulate a Formula One™ Pit Crew by working on a real, live Sahara Force India car.
