A Workshop for Indian doctors and Surgeons on Scientific Research Writing organized at Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals

New Delhi, 30 January 2017: With the aim to help doctors & surgeon to gain expertise in writing well analyzed scientific research papers, a workshop organized by Journal of Clinical Orthopaedics and Trauma (JCOT) in collaboration of Delhi Orthopaedic Association (DOA) and Elsevier, one of the world’s major providers of scientific, technical, and medical information .

One day workshop was organized on Sunday, 29th January at Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals. About 50 doctors from India and abroad participated in this workshop. Editors and experienced reviewers from reputed indexed Indian journals (both surgical and medical) trained both the young surgeons and established surgeons.

Invited Faculty for the workshop include Dr. K Ganguly (Former DG, ICMR),  Anil Jain, (Former Editor of IJO), Dr. Ashok Shyam (Head, Indian Orthopaedic Research Group), Dr. Jugal Kishore (HOD, Community Medicine, Safdarjung Hospital), Dr. Mohit Patralekh (SMO, Safdarjung Hospital), Ish K Dhammi (Editor IJO), Dr. AC Anand (Sr. Consultant, Gastroenterologist, Apollo Hospital), Dr. Nitin Ghonge (Sr. Consultant Radiologist, Apollo Hospital), Dr. Sita Naik (Former member GC, ICMR), Dr. Anupam Prakash (Professor, LHMC), Raman Sardana (Sr. Consultant Microbiologist, Apollo Hospital) and Sameer Gupta (Elsevier), Dr. Nipun Chaudhary (Editor, Apollo Medicine).

According to the course director, Dr. Raju Vaishya, Senior Orthopaedic & Joint Replacement Surgeon, Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, New Delhi, this whole-day program was organised with aims to help the surgeons to gain expertise and insight into the conceptualization, methodology, execution, errors and critical analysis of publication of their original research work in reputed indexed journals.

Scientific chairman of the workshop Prof. Lalit Maini said that Scientific Research Writing involves clear transparent reporting of a research finding and its interpretation in a logical way so as to impact current and future clinical practice. Dr. Hitesh Lal stated that even people with natural writing/oratory skills find this challenging and cumbersome without a scientific analytic approach.

According to the course secretary, Dr. Rajiv Thukral during this workshop,  participants were asked to prepare a dummy manuscript in real-time, analyzing each component critically. Post the workshop; mentors have been assigned to each participant to help in actual manuscript preparation and evaluation.
