Brussels, 15 March 2016 – worldsteel announces today the launch of its new Image Library for the media. The library showcases the latest compliant images and videos of modern steel production processes from ironmaking to finished product. The library is fully searchable and high-resolution images are downloadable for free editorial use. These images and videos have been commissioned by worldsteel, produced by Getty Images, and shot by leading photographers and videographers.
Edwin Basson, Director General at worldsteel said, “We have noticed that too many outdated images of steel production exist out there. These often depict redundant practices that would today be considered dangerous and do not reflect modern health and safety systems. A key part of this problem is the collection of ‘legacy’ photos inside media files which sometimes can be decades old and not reflective of the steel industry today.
According to our recent research on the use of steel imagery by the press around the world, 64% of press photography surveyed failed our quality check. 48% of the images were poorly shot, 29% of the images were outdated and 22% showed old and unsafe working practices.
