Mr. Hariom Tyagi, CEO of Wet & Dry Personal Care, which owns the everteen brand, says, “It is great that offbeat movies such as PadMan are breaking taboos around menstruation. It is the need of the hour that various stakeholders join hands to create awareness about menstrual hygiene. The grim reality today is that one in three women hesitates in buying sanitary essentials at a store in the presence of other customers. With everteen Period Box, they can now avail convenient doorstep delivery of their chosen sanitary essentials before their period date without any last moment rush, as per their calendar. Besides offering complete sanitary hygiene in discreet packaging, the everteen Period Box also ensures that a woman never has to worry about timely access to these essentials when they need them the most, month after month.”

According to a survey conducted by Women Health Organization, at least 43% of women have experienced a situation where they did not have ready access to sanitary essentials at the beginning of their periods. As many as 67% women have had to borrow a sanitary essential from a friend, colleague or family member. Out of these, as many as 45% said that they have had to borrow it at least once or twice every year. More than 45% women felt that menstruation was still considered a taboo in the Indian society and 36% felt uncomfortable while buying sanitary essentials from a chemist shop in the presence of other customers. The survey was conducted in October 2017 and included women respondents from more than 35 cities all over India including Bengaluru, Chennai, Cuttack, Delhi, Indore, Jaipur, Kanpur, Kolkata, Ludhiana, Mumbai, Ranchi, Srinagar, Surat and Thiruvananthapuram.

Dr. Anubha Singh, MBBS, MRCOG (London), Medical Director of Shantah Fertility Centre, and a leading gynaecologist and IVF Specialist in New Delhi, says, “Provisioning sanitary essentials is a monthly agony for most women, irrespective of whether they are homemakers, working professionals or students. As many as 24% teenagers in India have to skip school every month due to period pains during menstruation. The social stigma attached to menstruation has a direct impact on a woman’s intimate hygiene. We also come across patients who have persistent infections because of not using the right sanitary products. Widespread public awareness and innovative solutions such as subscription-based home deliveries are a must to realize the dream of Swachh Bharat in the context of women and increase their productivity and contribution to nation building. By focusing on complete feminine hygiene, India can save a lot in healthcare costs through prevention.” According to the National Family Health Survey (NFHS) 2015-16, only about 57.6% of the Indian women use sanitary napkins and 62% women in the age group 15-24 years still rely on cloth during periods.
