The inaugural lecture on “Introduction to the Dagar Tradition in Indian Classical Music” will be delivered by Ustad Baha’ud-din Dagar on Monday 7th October at the Conference Hall, Administrative Building, Goa University from 3 to 5 pm. The inaugural lecture is open to music lovers across the state and all are welcome to attend the same.
Participation in the entire 15 hour course on “Concept of Drupad in Indian Classical Music” at the Goa University from 7th to 18th October 2013 is on registration via the website of the Goa University (www.unigoa.ac.in ) and unigoa.wordpress.com. Participation certificates will be given to all those who attend the course.
The Visiting Professor for the Nana Shirgaokar Chair in Traditional Music Ustad Dagar will conduct elaborate discussions on aalaap, jod and the jhala special emphasis on composition and preparedness for musical presentation. The course is open to all students of Goa University as well as music lovers across the state and is free of cost.
Belonging to the 20th generation of the Dagar family he has been responsible for keeping the Dagar Vani style of Dhrupad alive on the Rudra Veena. While Baha’ud-din’s music clearly reflects the training he has received from his father, he has incorporated a personal dimension to the depth and exploration of the raga.
Acknowledging his responsibility in taking the Dhrupad tradition to future generations, Baha’ud-din teaches both, vocal and instrumental forms of music to students from different backgrounds in various parts of the country in India and also abroad. During his course in Goa University, Ustad Dagar will introduce the Dagar Tradition in Indian Classical music and will conduct elaborate discussions on aalaap, jod and the jhala. His course will also give special emphasis on composition and preparedness for musical presentation. The course will be open to all students of Goa University as well as music lovers across the state. The course requires no prior knowledge of the subject.
