The arrival of the latest version of Android 4.4, more popularly known as KitKat, is a hot topic of discussion, even for those who cannot be categorized as gadget-freaks. The Android 4.4 KitKat has brought in many changes like more absorbing graphics, deeper interaction with “Google Now” the intelligent assistant of Google, improved user experience and many other developments. The entire display can be used for applications and games with the 4.4 KitKat. The notifications and the battery icon are hidden when you are using the full screen for actions like reading books or playing games or watching movies.
The KitKat has certain hardware enabled sensor batching that helps to collect the sensor events in batches as they are detected rather than individually. This keeps the device’s application processor in idle mode till batches are delivered. With the standard event listener, the batched events could be collected from any sensor. The Android 4.4 KitKat will be able to run with handsets with only 512MB RAM, thus, is compatible with the devices that were made much earlier. It has the ability to streamline components to reduce memory usage and also brings in more application program interfaces [APIs] and tools, allowing developers come up with more memory efficient applications. The next generation OEMs of Android devices will benefit from the recommendations and options to run KitKat 4.4 perfectly even on low memory devices.
The Android 4.4 powered handset or tablet users can print photos, documents and other images through printers connected to the Google Cloud print. Google has opened APIs for the developers to manage printing and add new supports for the printer. The users can easily find the available printers, change the paper, and choose pages to print. Android 4.4 KitKat has a lot of tweaks to improve the speed and performance of the handset computer tasks. The company has further developed and optimized the memory to run on low memory and improved the touchscreen response, resulting in a smoother, faster and better apps and multitasking performances.
With Android 4.4 KitKat, all the contact lists from the various social networks like Facebook, Google plus, LinkedIn, and Twitter can be synced together. The sync then links up the profile picture with the contact details and creates a new tidy contact list with profile pictures. When you receive a call from a new unknown number, KitKat has the ability to search the Google Maps and give an appropriate picture so that you can have a better idea of the person calling you.
The Android KitKat can do now what Moto X has been doing for sometime. Go to ‘settings’ and turn the feature on. Say ‘OK Google’. You will find “Google Now” appearing on the display. You can enquire about the weather or get directions or find sport scores and movie timings etc. You can even get them to your inbox as text messages. The ‘Hangouts’ application from Google has also been restructured to make it compatible with MMS and SMS along with the IM threads from the Google contacts. Now you can also share and send animated GIFs with this device.
With KitKat, you can now capture real time video and store as an MP4 file. You could share the video directly from the device or MP4 file to your host computer. It supports MAP (Message Access Profile), allowing Bluetooth enabled cars to swap messages with Android devices. The Andrtoid 4.4 also offers platform support for in-built IR blasters and a new API to allow the developers build apps that can support them.
The Android 4.4 also features an advanced photo editing suite that is compatible with both smartphones and tablets. The photo editor comes with many attributes like alter geometry, saturation and applied filters, with the ability to apply predefined looks. The best advantage with the photo editor is that whatever you do to an image, you can always get it back to its original image or picture, if you wish to. It is quite powerful and can handle full size images, zoom, re edit, export or preset. So far as it concerns updates, the KitKat update would be available for Nexus 4, Nexus7 and Nexus 10.
