According to the Scotch whisky Association, the estimated annual shipment of single malt whiskies to India was 145000 cases in 2012 which was 9000 cases in 2001. The escalating figures and growing trend of ‘Single Malt Clubs’ in five star hotels and lounges across the country show that single malts have created a niche in the market.
Single malt whiskies are made of barley, yeast and water. These whiskies are called ‘Single Malts’ because they are aged in oak casks in a single distillery while blended whiskies, which contain a mix of barrel-aged malt and grain whiskies, and are aged in different distilleries.

Teacher’s Single Malt uses a Double Maturation Process to impart the whisky with a more complex, fuller and robust taste. Maturation happens; first in the more usual ex-bourbon barrels and then in small 19th Century style Quarter Casks created especially for Ardmore. The smaller barrel size allows greater contact with the oak during maturation, resulting in a more rounded flavour, accompanied by a subtle sweetness. The second marriage between spirit and wood, combined with its ‘100% peated’ smoky hues, produces a Highland Single Malt distinct enough to be called singular.
Teacher’s Highland Single Malt was launched globally from India in December 2011. The global launch of this premium spirit from India depicted Beam Inc’s commitment to the Indian market.
Teacher’s Highland Single Malt from the Ardmore Distillery 750 ml is priced at Rs. 4300 in Delhi, Rs. 5770 in Mumbai, Rs. 5179 in Bangalore, Rs. 5500 in Kolkata.
Mr. Robert Hicks, Teacher’s Master Blender, during the launch of Teacher’s Highland Single Malt spoke about the brand and said that, “Teacher’s Single Malt is produced at Ardmore Malt Distillery in the Eastern Highlands of Scotland which was designed and built in 1898 by Adam Teachers, one of the sons of William Senior. Adam wanted a very individual single malt whisky to be distilled for use in Teacher’s and to achieve that he bought the new Pitsligo peat bed in Banff to ensure the quality of the peat used in drying the malted barley.
