aonPerformance-based equity award holders now have a direct line of sight between relative TSR performance and potential compensation outcomes in real time

San Jose, Calif., Aug. 4, 2014Aon Hewitt and Radford announced today that their Equity Valuation Services practice has launched a new edition of PeerTracker, an online service designed to support companies in the design, communication and tracking of performance-based equity awards with relative total shareholder return (“TSR”) metrics. The latest version of PeerTracker features improved data visualizations, easier access to data downloads, a robust plan communication platform, enhanced quality control settings, and a suite of educational resources for plan designers and participants.

Performance-based equity plans with relative TSR metrics currently occupy a prominent position in the equity compensation landscape, with more than 900 companies disclosing plans in U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filings since 2006. Along with this growth, increasingly diverse and complex plans are now proliferating in the marketplace as companies incorporate global peer groups, multiple metrics and broader sets of participants to address unique business challenges.

“The current generation of relative TSR plans is extraordinarily complex, as companies seek to create balanced programs for both award holders and shareholders,” notes Dan Kapinos, a director in the Equity Valuation Services practice who leads the PeerTracker business. “PeerTracker 3.0 addresses this challenge by giving companies the flexibility to adopt plan features that reduce shareholder risk, while at the same time communicating with award holders in real time on a shared, transparent platform.”

To further meet increased market demand for research and guidance, the Equity Valuation Services practice has also released a new suite of data-driven analyses, articles and educational videos covering key relative TSR plan design issues. These resources are available at www.RelativeTSR.com.

“As plan complexity rises, we feel it is critical to provide companies, participants and the Board with the resources they need to understand the implications of key plan design considerations – decisions that may seem minor on day one, but which can impact final award outcomes significantly,” says Jon Burg, partner and leader of the Equity Valuation Services practice.
