Dubai, UAE, 20 October, 2014: Her Excellency Amal Bin Adi, Director General of Dubai Government Human Resources today officially opened the 11thedition of the HR Summit &Expo, the Middle East’s largest, most influential HR event.

Taking place until 22 October at the Dubai International and Exhibition Centre, the three-day event welcomed Marshall Goldsmith, author and editor of more than 30 books including bestsellers ‘MOJO’ and ‘What Got You Here Won’t Get You There’, who addressed regional HR professionals on how to build global leadership.

Goldsmith outlined to the audience why the skills of today’s global leaders won’t be enough, and why tomorrow’s leaders won’t resemble today’s.  He said: “When we ask how the global leader of the future would be different from the leader of the past, five key factors emerge: global thinking; cross-cultural appreciation; technological savvy; building alliance and partnerships; and sharing leadership.

“My focus is on teaching employees to build their own engagement.  This is very supporting of what HR professionals have done in the past – changing the organisation to build engagement.”

With six guru speakers featured this year, including three athletes, the HR Summit &Expo has attracted a speaker line-up of more than 60 regional and international HR heads from some of the biggest regional and multinational organisations in the world.

Tomorrow (Tuesday 21 October), the dedicated summit will feature RasmusAnkersen, Danish football coach and best-selling author who will discuss ‘Crafting Gold Mines of Talent’, and Liz Wiseman, author of the Wall Street Journal’s bestseller ‘Multipliers: how the best leaders make everyone smarter’, for her presentation, ‘The Art of Engaging Talent’.

Another highlight of the second day is a presentation from Sven Rohte, CCO of Daman, who will present Daman’s Future Champions programme that is inspiring the younger generation for 2030.  This will showcase how creating a Health Guardian in the workplace helps to promote a healthier lifestyle and health awareness in an organisation.

“The UAE, as part of its vision, aspires to create a knowledge-based economy and we believe that a healthier population would safeguard this vision,” said Rohte.

“Our initiative stems from the belief that a healthy professional is a successful professional. If you look at what makes an athlete succeed in their sport it exactly the same for a professional. Both are physically fit – to carry their tasks – mentally fit and performance-oriented.”

Running alongside the conference and exhibition is the Middle East HR Excellence Awards which will showcase the best HR talent in the Middle East and honour the regions professionals in the public and private sectors.  Winners will be celebrated across nine separate categories at a gala dinner on tomorrow (Tuesday 21 October).

The HR Summit and Expo is supported by Headline Sponsors Daman, LinkedIn, Spire, Profiles International, Ramco Systems, and CEB; Gold Sponsor Tanfeeth; Silver Sponsors ManpowerGroup, BTS and Zurich International Life. More information is available at: www.hrsummitexpo.com
