According to Wikipedia “Sexting is the act of sending sexually explicit messages or photographs, primarily between mobile phones. The term was first popularized in early 21st century, and is a portmanteau of sex and texting, where the latter is meant in the wide sense of sending a text possibly with images.”
Recent online surveys point out to the growing tendency of teenagers and young adults to send nude or explicit images of themselves. A web movement called project-ism (ishotmyself) is a raging hit – with more than 260,000 images published so far with one of the highest hits in the net. And here’s what they are saying to justify their existence:
“What inspires young women to submit their naked photos online? The short answer is – Control. The ability to show yourself on your terms, how you’d like to be seen, free from the distortion of someone else’s viewpoint and the sanitizing of Photoshop. For some contributors this is an exposition of pure art. For others it’s a rebellious gesture, erotic expression, a desire to be desired, or a cathartic process. And for everyone, as we’re told every day, it’s just hugely fun.”
While that may sound fun when you are just about beginning to be aware of your body, “children” must be made aware of and forewarned of the fact that such explicit images do not come with a delete option and in the wrong hands may cause untold damages and the net is swamped with malice dripping “ex” pics.
