Claimed to be the ‘Sexiest’ Rolls Royce built ever, the new model from British car marquee’s clan was unveiled yesterday in UK prior to the upcoming Frakfurt Motor Show which will start shortly. The soft top convertible ‘Dawn’ embodies the traits of Rolls-Royce Silver Dawn drophead that dates back to 1952.
Albiet, the new beast from the British luxury car maker has been endowed with the Rolls Royce DNA inside out, yet the company maintains that most of the body panels on the new convertible are new. Moreover, Rolls Royce Dawn seems to have been afflated largely from the Wraith, the soul remains same but it gets a new body.
On the design front, nothing changes much, the convertible features a long bonnet in front marked by the heavily chrome glutted radiator grille that features chrome fillets. The all LED adaptive head lights get a new glare-free technology. The large wheels are well in proportion with the rest of the body which balances the entire look. Shoulder line remains high and tapering rear graphic has been inherited too from other Rolls Royce.
Cabin has been designed to seat four adults comfortably; the all leather seats have been hand-stitched. Space on offer is generous even for the rear passengers. Deck around the rear seats and centre console features open-pore wood. Instrument cluster gets a tweak; cabin gets a string of avant-garde features that push the oomph factor further.
To start with, a bespoke audio system with 16 speakers is fitted, a touch pad is incorporated in place of a touch screen that takes writing commands. Besides, the luxury educing convertible gets voice commands. A Spirit of Ecstasy Rotary Controller will also be equipped inside; this permits the user to access media and navigation function.
Under the skin lies a strapping powerhouse that runs this beast that said the power is obtained by high displacement engine that has a capacity of 6.6 litre. This twin-turbocharged, V12 engine propagates mounting power of 563 PS at 5250 RPM along with 780 Nm at 1500 RPM.
The power produced is good enough to pull the convertible to 100 kmph from rest within 4.9 seconds. An eight speed satellite aided transmission is linked to the engine that uses a GPS in order to identify whenever there is a change in terrain. Top speed achieved by the engine stands at 250 kmph.
The soft top is claimed to be the quietest one on offer, the French Seam on the soft top doesn’t allow noise to disturb occupants seated inside. Moreover, the soft top takes 22 seconds to open and it can also be operated even when the car is being driven at 50 kmph of speed.
Competition is really not a concern when a drop dead gorgeous vehicle like Dawn is concerned and the technology used inside makes it even better. The features stuffed inside are elite and offer an all different experience to the occupants aboard. All this and more that the car has on offer comes for a very hefty price tag, it definitely belongs to people made of money and those who do not mind making a huge dent on their bank balance just to own a luxury vehicle, that said the new Rolls Royce Dawn will be available for around $335,000. Unveiled ahead of the Frankfurt Motor Show 2015, the vehicle will be put on sale early next year.
