New Delhi, 23rd October 2015: Mumbai will witness re-opening of the Royal Norwegian Consulate-General (CG) by the Foreign Minister of Norway, Mr. Børge Brende, and Norwegian Ambassador Mr. Eivind Homme along with the Consul General. The re-opening will make official Norwegian presence in Mumbai the youngest and oldest at the same time as the previous Norwegian CG in Mumbai was built in 1857 and was operational till 1973.
Shipping relations between Norway and India are more than 150 years old & recently, trade between India and Norway has grown, not least because of increased partnerships in areas like oil and gas; and shipping and maritime industries. The successful cooperation between Reliance Industries and Aker Solutions for the development of the first ever deep-water gas field off the eastern coast of India has proven how collaboration in this field can change the oil & gas scenario in India.
In order to strengthen such tie ups & explore mutual opportunities for the countries, a seminar on the Ocean industries & a seminar on the Seafood industry will be held on the same day. The seminars will be inaugurated by Norwegian dignitaries who include Minister of External Affairs Mr. Børge Brende, Consul General Mr. Torbjørn Holthe & the Norwegian Ambassador, Mr. Eivind Homme.
India’s coastline is over 7000 km long, which makes it the second largest aquaculture producer in the world, but still has a huge potential when it comes to expanding its fishing fleet, and its marine regulatory framework, where Norwegian technology and expertise can contribute to growth, especially in the areas of deep-sea fishing.
The Norwegian Seafood Seminar will be showcasing the findings from the research conducted by Norwegian Seafood Council recently on the industry in India. With upbeat Norwegian fish exporters increasingly looking towards the promising Indian market, this seminar will provide useful insights into what lies ahead.
The Norwegian Week kicks off from this weekend with Ibsen Festival which will showcase the works of noted Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen. The three-day festival from 24th -26th October will conclude with a seminar on translations and adaptations of Ibsen and the art and challenges of working with Ibsen’s texts.
