ASSOCHAM launches the Maharashtra-Goa Regional Development Council, strategic efforts towards achieving inclusive growth and development for the 2 States
Considering the tremendous conviction and confidence in the growth outlook for Maharashtra and its potential to become the International Finance Centre, apex industry body, ASSOCHAM has announced the launch of Maharashtra-Goa regional development council. Keeping this primary objective in mind the trade body has dedicated this development council for the two states.
Speaking on the launch, Mr. Rana Kapoor, President, ASSOCHAM said, “This is definitely a major step towards the industrial and sustainable development of the two major states, Maharashtra and Goa. ASSOCHAM’s representations and recommendations in Maharashtra and Goa will lead to focused policy and thought leadership interventions of national importance. We have received a phenomenal response for this initiative from corporate / large / emerging SMEs”.

- The Maharashtra-Goa Regional Development Council will further strengthen ties with the industry leaders based in these two States as well as with the State Governments of Maharashtra and Goa
- The Council will align its strategic efforts towards achieving inclusive growth and development for the 2 States by championing thought leadership, driving strategic interventions and creating value for Industry
- The Council will have the following focus areas:
- Position Mumbai as an International Finance Centre
- Development of Mumbai-Pune-Nashik region as the Silicon Valley of India – hub for hi-tech innovation
- Catalyze the development of ‘Smart Cities’ – Greater Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane, Kalyan-Dombivali, Nashik, Pune, Nagpur, Amravati, Aurangabad and Solapur
- Focus on key growth sectors in the region such as agri-business, financial services, media & entertainment, life sciences & healthcare, design & innovation, education
- Sustainable development of Konkan region through focus on eco-tourism and creation of “Indian Riviera”
- Promote sustainable mining, hinterland ecotourism, education & hospitality in Goa
- Actualize incremental potential of Maharashtra as a manufacturing hub
