ATDC organizes a seminar on Market & Manufacturing Opportunities for Lingerie Wear in India

 

Apparel Training & Design Centre, (ATDC) India’s largest vocational training network for the apparel sector organized a Seminar on ‘ Market and Manufacturing Opportunities for Lingerie wear in India” at ATDC – JUKI Technology and Entrepreneurship Hub, Bangalore. The participants invited for the seminar were students and faculty of educational and vocational institutes in Bangalore, members of the garment industry and representatives from buying houses. The seminar was organised as a curtain raiser to introduce the ATDC- Juki Technology and Entrepreneurship Hub and its activities.

Mr. Yusuf  Dohadwala, CEO Intimate Apparel Association of India (IAAI) and Editor, Inner Secrets Magazine inaugurated the seminar and said that the efforts of ATDC to offer specialised training in lingerie wear are commendable. Many times in the past IAAI has attempted but did not succeed particularly because of the inhibitions people have to speak about the product. From the Association all support will be extended to create awareness about the courses and programmes among its members and encourage support to the activities that ATDC plans to launch. He also highlighted that the Indian consumer is aware of the significance of the inner wear and products have to be made available to consumers of different economic strata.

Mr. Ravi Kishore, Regional Manager, ATDC Karnataka said that “ATDC has been offering various vocational courses for the apparel sector with specialisation in pattern, manufacture, quality assurance, testing, CAD etc. ATDC has now collaborated with Juki India to offer further specialisations specific to products such as lingerie wear. With a vision to build strong product specialisations and create niche markets, ATDC has entered into an MOU with Juki India and set up the ATDC- Juki Technology and Entrepreneurship Hub to offer product specialty courses and training in lingerie wear”

Mr. Sumir Hinduja, Managing Director, Gokaldas Images Pvt. Ltd spoke about the Market & Opportunities for Lingerie Wear in India. He explained the size of the market and the needs of the consumer. Analysing the current buying patterns of the consumers, Mr. Hinduja said that based on the income classification of consumers, they can be identified as those who have less than 5 pieces, between 6-10 pieces, and over 10 pieces. He further elaborated on the product classification by price. In his presentation Mr. Hinduja, has explained the trends in marketing and the opportunities available for different segments.

It was followed by a presentation by Mr. Maruthi Reddy, Asst. Manager, Technical Support, Juki India. In his presentation Mm. Reddy has described the different machines used in the lingerie wear specially to make bras. He showed various videos of machines such as those used in cup making, strap making and cutting, D-ring attaching and advanced machines that do not need thread trimming after sewing.

Concluding the skill gap analysis, Mr. Ravi Kishore said that keeping in view the need to bridge the skill and knowledge gaps in the lingerie industry, ATDC is announcing various courses. To begin with ATDC, Bangalore will be conducting workshops for the industry and faculty. These are aimed at short programmes on pattern making, design and style analysis, introduction to operations etc. A detailed training course of 300 hours is proposed to commence in the first quarter of 2016. This programme of will include basic designing, body measurements, pattern making, introduction to materials used in lingerie wear in addition to sewing practical.

The seminar concluded with a vote of thanks and demonstration of the various machines by the Juki team.
