The Bengal Chamber greatly commends the Government of West Bengal for its initiatives towards development and progress, in spite of heavy interest payments due to the inherited financial burden.
The Chamber has noted the strides forward by the State Government in agriculture, service sectors, IT, health, education, infrastructure, road and urban development, industry and MSME improvement and agriculture between 2011 and 2016. It is despite the State having inherited a legacy of a debt burden of over Rs. 1 lakh crore. Standing against heavy odds of financial erosion on account of payment of inherited interest outgo of Rs 1.4 lakh crore, the Hon’ble Finance Minister’s focus is on resource building and development through a projected planned expenditure of Rs 57,905 crore.
