The event was held at The Leela Palace, Bengaluru and inaugurated by chief guest, Mr. Sudhir Chandra, adviser to RITES Ltd., for Nagpur Metro Rail Project.

The conference showcased renowned speakers from engineering and construction domains sharing their insights and experiences on emerging trends and how project management can help get the best out of E&C projects. The government is banking on infrastructure sector as one of the key pillars of India’s growth story. Given the critical role of infrastructure in ensuring a sustained growth trajectory for India, it is imperative that the core issues affecting successful completion of projects are identified and actionable initiatives in improving project management effectiveness are evolved. Taking this into consideration, the conference was organized to highlight the pressing need for advancing the knowledge, skills and competency among the project management professionals in the construction industry.

Commenting on the objectives of the Symposium, President of PMI Bangalore India Chapter, Mr. Vijay Paul, said “Engineering & Construction Sector carries phenomenal responsibility of converting our nation’s vision into reality. This will in turn leapfrog our country towards massive growth trajectory and enable economic, social & industrial transformation. Successful execution of programs & projects calls for professionalism and alignment to standard processes for planning, execution, monitoring and controlling where project management practices play a vital role. PMI Bangalore India Chapter has conceptualised multiple industry forums to propagate project management knowledge & practices across diverse sectors so that different stakeholders, professionals, engineers & community can learn from thought leaders & fellow practitioners. E&C Forum was the first such effort in that direction to create a platform for interactions with speakers, delegates, fellow professionals and consultants through a symposium.”

Commenting on the forum PMI India’s Managing Director, Raj Kalady, said “Project management processes are critical to bridge the chasm between high level strategic vision and successful outcomes. However, it would be startling to know that in India, organizations waste an average of 11% (USD 109 million for every USD 1 billion spent on projects or programs) due to poor project performance as per PMI’s Pulse of the Profession report 2016. This symposium organized by PMI Bangalore India Chapter could not have come at a better time than now.”
