Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation (NSSMC; Chairman & CEO – Mr. Shoji Muneoka) has received a “Thomson Reuters 2012 Top 100 Global Innovator Award,” which honors the world’s top 100 most innovative corporations and institutions, and was presented with a trophy today.
In this second year of the award, Thomson Reuters has selected companies that are engaged in innovative R&D activities and superior intellectual property activities, based on its strict objective data, analysis, and standards.
The award has four evaluation criteria for selection: overall patent volume, patent grant success rate, global reach of the portfolio and patent influence as evidenced by citations. NSSMC was highly regarded, particularly in the criteria of overall patent volume, global reach of the portfolio and patent influences as evidenced by citations. Our efforts in protecting intellectual property rights and developing globally influential innovations have been acknowledged.
In the 2012 Top 100 Global Innovators list, 25 Japanese companies were represented, while NSSMC was the only company selected from the global metal refining industry including steel.
