Dassault Systèmes Foundation inspires design and manufacturing for rural economy, recycling and clean energy with AAKRUTI design competition

India—July 31, 2018: Dassault Systèmes Foundation announced AAKRUTI — an annual nationwide product design competition. The AAKRUTI 2018 contest is an innovation driven platform to shape student’s imagination and bring their creative designs to life using product design applications. With the objective of reaching out to the engineering colleges and universities across India and make them aware about latest trends in the Product Design and Manufacturing domain, AAKRUTI encourages students to showcase their design skills, creativity and innate talent. The competition encourages students to use this contest as a platform to design a product that can be commercially manufactured which can eventually benefit the nation. Participating students can use product design applications of their choice, Dassault Systèmes will offer a license of SOLIDWORKS education edition to all the registered teams for the necessary time, to all participants asking for it to design and simulate their product ideas. AAKRUTI is well aligned with Dassault Systèmes Foundation’s vision to promote the advancement of excellence and skill enhancement in all aspects of engineering, technology and design while fostering innovation.


On this occasion, P M Ravikumar, Senior Director, Dassault Systèmes – SOLIDWORKS, said “Over the years AAKRUTI has evolved as a highly acclaimed design competition in India with over 850 teams from 196 colleges across 21 states competed last year. This number has been significantly growing and the jury has witnessed several impactful projects. Last year the team from Pimpri Chinchwad College of Engineering, Pune won the competition and got an opportunity to showcase Smart Product for Waste management and Reuse at SOLIDWORKS World 2018 in Los Angeles earlier this year. We are committed in nurturing talent and providing them a platform to develop the workforce of the future.”

Each year the competition brings forth different themes of national importance and to everyone’s delight, the participating students surpass the expectations with their innovative designs and ideas. Themes for this year’s competition includes

  • Innovative products to boost rural economy
  • Agriculture tools and devices
  • Reduce-reuse-recycle-purify
  • Solar/ Wind energy based useful equipment

The finals of the Aakruti 2018 event will be hosted at the 3DPLM campus of Dassault Systèmes at Hinjewadi, Pune in October 2018. Sudarshan Mogasale, CEO, 3DPLM- Dassault Systèmes, India said, “Every year the enthusiasm around Aakruti grows bigger and larger. It is a great feeling to witness the bright talented students presenting their ideas to a jury who are from different backgrounds – science, engineering, finance and public administration. This year we have laid emphasis on innovative ideas that can be taken to masses and in a form that it can be even manufactured at any village. Any artisan in a rural area should be able to manufacture the innovative product and make it available for local community. There are significant prizes in cash and certifications, job opportunities and incubation support for winning projects. However the most coveted opportunity for the winning team is to participate at the SOLIDWORKS WORLD 2019 event at Dallas, Texas, USA.
