Moscow, 28 March 2016 — Aeroflot PJSC (Moscow Exchange ticker: AFLT) today announces traffic statistics for Aeroflot Group (“the Group”) and Aeroflot – Russian Airlines (“the Company”) for February and the first two months of 2016.
2M 2016 Operating Highlights
In the first two months of 2016, Aeroflot Group passenger traffic was 5.8 million, up 14.3% year-on-year. Aeroflot airline’s passenger traffic was 4.0 million, a year-on-year increase of 13.0%.Group and Company RPKs increased by 13.9% and 11.1% year-on-year, respectively. ASKs rose by 11.3% year-on-year for Aeroflot Group and by 10.4% for Aeroflot airline.The passenger load factor increased by 1.7 percentage points (p.p.) year-on-year to 75.1% for the Group and by 0.5 p.p. year-on-year to 75.2% for the Company.
February Operating Highlights
In February 2016, Aeroflot Group passenger traffic was 2.9 million, up 17.1% year-on-year. Aeroflot airline’s passenger traffic was 2.0 million, a year-on-year increase of 15.3%.
Group and Company RPKs increased by 16.5% and 12.9% year-on-year, respectively. ASKs rose by 13.6% year-on-year for Aeroflot Group and by 12.6% for Aeroflot airline.
On domestic routes, Group traffic and RPKs grew by 24.8% and 20.1% year-on-year, respectively. Company traffic and RPKs on domestic routes were up 25.0% and 21.6% year-on-year, respectively. This was mainly attributable to increased demand for domestic flights, growth of in-country tourism combined with a corresponding 14.1% year-on-year increase in ASKs for the Group and 15.5% increase for the Company. The rise in ASKs was due in part to increased flight frequencies on high-demand routes.
On international routes, Group passengers carried rose 7.3% year-on-year while Group RPKs were up 13.9% year-on-year. ASKs for the period increased 13.3% year-on-year. Passenger traffic on Aeroflot airline international flights increased 7.3% and RPKs increased by 8.7%. International traffic increased despite the suspension of flights to destinations in Ukraine and Egypt and the suspension of charter flights to Turkey. International traffic growth was supported by a continued decline in competition as several foreign carriers had reduced flight frequencies to Russia, Aeroflot airline’s higher transit traffic through its Sheremetyevo hub and Transaero’s exit from the marketwhich triggered a reallocation of traffic and routes amongst market players.
As a result of the factors discussed above, the passenger load factor increased by 1.8 percentage points year-on-year to 76.1% for the Group and by 0.2 p.p. year-on-year to 76.4% for the Company.
Fleet Update
In 2M 2016, the Group added two Boeing 737-800s, two SSJ100s, one DHC-8-400, one Airbus A319 and one Airbus A320. Two Airbus A319s and one Boeing 767 were phased out of the Aeroflot Group fleet. The Group fleet increasedby four aircraft bringing the fleet size to 262 aircraft as of 29 February 2016.[1]
For 2M 2016, Aeroflot airline added two Boeing 737-800s, two SSJ100s and one Airbus A320. One Airbus A319 and one Boeing 767 were phased out, resulting in a net Company fleet increase of three aircraft and bringing the fleet size to 170 aircraft as of 29 February 2016.
