In the week ending January 26, 2013, domestic raw steel production was 1,806,000 net tons while the capability utilization rate was 75.4 percent. Production was 1,918,000 tons in the week ending January 26, 2012, while the capability utilization then was 77.6 percent. The current week production represents a 5.8 percent decrease from the same period in the previous year. Production for the week ending January 26, 2013 is down 1.0 percent from the previous week ending January 19, 2013 when production was 1,824,000 tons and the rate of capability utilization was 76.1percent.
Adjusted year-to-date production through January 26, 2013 was 7,205,000 tons, at a capability utilization rate of 75.0 percent. That is a 5.9 percent decrease from the 7,657,000 tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 77.6 percent.
