BANGKOK, 2 July 2015 – ASEAN Member States wrapped up their ASEAN Community commemorative stamps using a common design to reflect the “oneness” of the community which will officially begin on 31 December 2015. To illustrate the concept of the design, ASEAN Member States’ flags are unified in a form of flower. In the background, the pigeon symbolises the pacific aspect of the region. A handshake below the flags portrays friendship and the golden ears of rice refer to basic agriculture, the main ASEAN way of life.
Each country produced the stamp with the country’s name and currency. ASEAN will launch the stamps on 8 August this year, which is the 48th anniversary of ASEAN. Additionally, all Member States are going to use the same postmark design, which is also obtained from the contest.
On the postmark, the ASEAN emblem is placed in the middle of the design, circled by three lines which refer to the “three pillars” of ASEAN Community namely ASEAN Political-Security Community, ASEAN Economic Community, and ASEAN Socio – Cultural Community.
Both winning stamp and postmark designs came from Vietnam Post. They were selected during the final round of stamp design contest held in mid-February this year in Bangkok.
