National, February 25, 2016: Through its technology brand Bull, Atos is joining forces with Quartet FS, the provider of the ActivePivot in-memory analytical platform, to launch a Big Data appliance that speeds up data analysis and improves the operational decision-making process for financial institutions. This innovative in-memory technology has been integrated into the bullion server from Bull as an appliance that ensures compliance with the future FRTB banking regulations.
Benefits of the new appliance
Thanks to ActivePivot, the in-memory computing and database platform from Quartet FS, and the unique capabilities of the bullion server, the high-end x86 server from Bull, this new Big Data appliance offers the finance sector the following:
- A computation engine that is optimised for all kinds of risk metrics (including VaR, expected shortfall, CVA and P&L) and that enables financial institutions to prepare for regulatory compliance with the future FRTB (Fundamental Review of the Trading Book) regulations.
- Combination with a powerful analytics, simulation and decision aid tool – all on a powerful and scalable hardware platform.
- The ability to process large volumes of data – more than ten terabytes – in real time with very low latency periods.
- A fully integrated, easy-to-deploy turnkey solution that enables cost control.
In-memory for real-time data processing
With the digital transition, companies have to analyse massive quantities of data so as to calculate and visualise risks and opportunities and to respond with immediate decision-making. As a result of financial regulations being strengthened, banks not only have to know how to calculate risks, but also be able to verify the results of their calculations at any time at the request of the regulatory authorities. Capable of processing large volumes of data with very low latency periods, the in-memory technology from Quartet FS is the only technical solution able to simultaneously and fluidly offer these two aggregated / granular visualisations on a single platform.
“Deploying ActivePivot on the bullion server enables us to exploit the full flexibility of the platform’s Java architecture. By combining our cutting-edge in-memory technology and our expertise in the finance professions with Atos’ excellence in the hardware segment, we can offer financial institutions a complete solution for calculating and verifying risks on a daily basis, as is required by FRTB regulations, with a modular hardware platform that is tailored to their needs,” explains Georges Bory, Co-Founder of Quartet FS.
“This announcement is another step towards our ambition of supporting clients in their transition towards Big Data. So we can precisely respond to banks’ needs, we opted for Quartet FS’ ActivePivot, an effective in-memory solution that complements our bullion server perfectly,” states Arnaud Bertrand, Group SVP, Head of Big Data & HPC at Atos.
* bullion: already adopted by more than 100 million end users worldwide
bullion is deployed on a large scale in many companies and governments – mainly in Europe, Africa and Brazil. The bullion servers from Bull, the Atos brand for technology products & software, have a memory capacity that is unique on the market (of up to 24 TB). Their modular and scalable architecture, which ranges from two to 16 sockets (up to 288 cores), makes for perfect investment optimisation. bullion’s scalability means future needs can be addressed by simply adding or reallocating capacity. These qualities and the recent announcement that bullion beat the gross performance world record show that this x86 server achieves exceptional levels of performance that make it the enterprise server of choice for in-memory applications.
