New Delhi, 13 November, 2015 – Diwali is one of the biggest and brightest festivals in India, marked by celebrations, fireworks and joy. To further brighten this Diwali and curb air pollution, Baidu India has launched a green initiative encouraging people to light lamps (diya) instead of firecrackers. For every diya lit, Baidu India has pledged to plant a tree to support an environmentally friendly India.
To participate in the #DUItRight campaign this Diwali and have a tree planted, simply follow the steps below:
1. Between November 8th-13th, post an image or video of you lighting a lamp with the hashtag #DUItRight on Facebook or Twitter; 2. In your post, tell Baidu India why you support a firecracker-free Diwali; 3. Nominate three friends to #DUItRight by tagging them in your post; 4. Tag @BaiduIndia in your post.
In addition to the #DUItRight campaign, Baidu has previously advocated other environmental causes in India and worldwide. DU Battery Saver, one of Baidu’s most popular Android apps outside of China, enables smartphone users to conserve electricity by charging their devices less frequently. According to data from the product developers, DU Battery Saver can cumulatively save over 59,000 KWh of electricity every day across all of its users worldwide, which is equivalent to the amount of power consumed by roughly 20,000 households in India. In 2014, DU Battery Saver partnered with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) to raise awareness of Earth Hour, the world’s largest grassroots environmental movement organized by WWF.
