New Delhi, September 30, 2013: Every year since its inception in 2011, the Indian Deaf Youth Forum [IDYF] has been celebrating The International Week of Deaf annually discussing Deaf Human Right, Awareness on Sign Language, Sign Bilingualism being a Deaf Human Right and this year the Theme for all Celebrations is “Equality for Deaf people in Society”.
This year the IDYF took the initiative to not limit its celebrations to just a one day event but a series of events. The first day celebration started at DLF Place Saket Mall on 28th September 2013 with a good response from people in the mall. Harsh Mayer actor from the movie I AM KALAM was invited as the guest to address the crowd. The entire week and the activities were dedicated to:
• Creating awareness about Sign Language and Deafness in the hearing society
• A health awareness for Deaf women which is scheduled for 6th oct 2013 at Multi Purpose Training Centre for Deaf , AIFD, 12/13 Special Institutional Area, Shaheed Jeet Singh Marg, Near FAI bus stop, Near JNU Delhi 67.
• The grand Finale is scheduled for 13th Oct 2013 at Shree Delhi Gujarati Samaj, 2 Rajniwas Marg, Civil Lines, Delhi 54. This event will include Dance, drama in ISL, Presentations by eminent Deaf Leaders and short films by deaf people Timings 11:30 am to 5pm.
The Indian Deaf Youth Forum is a group of Deaf Youth who have taken it on themselves to empower not only themselves but also the Deaf Youth across the country. Under the aegis of the All India Federation of the Deaf [AIFD], the Indian Deaf Youth Forum has been working relentlessly to create awareness on various topics for the Deaf Youth in Delhi. With conducting empowering activities everySunday at Multi Purpose Training Centre for Deaf , AIFD, 12/13 Special Institutional Area, Shaheed Jeet Singh Marg, Near FAI bus stop, Near JNU Delhi 67, the IDYF has discussed issues related to Deafness, Importance of Education, Deaf Empowerment, Life Skills and a lot more.
The hearing society has a lot of misconceptions about Deaf people and sign languages. Since Deafness is not easily visible unless you see Deaf people talking in sign language a lot of misconceptions have created more difficulties for the Deaf in society. The IDYF hopes to eradicate these misconceptions and make the society more accessible to the Deaf population of our country.

All India Federation of the Deaf (AIFD) was set up on 22nd December 1955 with an aim to unite the Deaf all over the country.
AIFD is an apex body of different affiliated organizations spread all over India and serves the deaf community in elevating living quality of the Deaf. Globally, it works with World Federation of the Deaf (WFD), which is in turn affiliated to UNESCO, UNICEF and ILO of United Nations Organization (UNO).
